What Is the NDIS?

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is a government program that provides funding to eligible Australians under 65 who have a permanent or significant disability.
It’s designed to give you choice and control over the supports you receive.

How to Access NDIS Funding

Step-by-Step Support to Get the Help You Deserve

Accessing the NDIS can feel confusing at first — but with the right guidance, it’s a clear and empowering process. At Prestige Living Healthcare, we’re here to make the journey simple, supportive, and stress-free.

Here’s how to get started:

Check If You’re Eligible

To access NDIS funding, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be under 65 years old when you apply
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
  • Have a permanent and significant disability that impacts your daily life
  • Need support now and into the future to participate in the community and live independently

Not sure if you qualify? We’ll help you figure it out.

Make an Access Request

If you believe you’re eligible, the next step is to submit an Access Request. You can do this by:

  • Calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110, or
  • Downloading and completing an Access Request Form from the NDIS website

You’ll need to provide:

  • Proof of identity
  • Information about your disability
  • Supporting documentation from your doctor, specialists, or allied health professionals

We can help you collect and organise your paperwork for a stronger application.

Participate in a Planning Meeting

Once your access is approved, the NDIS will invite you to a planning meeting. This is where you’ll talk about:

  • Your goals and aspirations
  • What supports you need in your daily life
  • Any current services you receive
  • How you want your NDIS funding managed (self-managed, plan-managed, or NDIA-managed)

We can help you prepare for this meeting so you feel confident and ready to advocate for your needs.

Receive Your Plan

After your meeting, you’ll receive your official NDIS Plan, which outlines:

  • Your goals
  • Funding amounts across different support categories (Core, Capacity Building, Capital)
  • What supports you can use and how to access them

We’ll help you understand your plan — and make it work for you.

Start Using Your NDIS Supports

With your plan approved, you can now start accessing services and supports!

As your provider, Prestige Living Healthcare can assist you with:

  • Personal care and in-home supports
  • Community participation
  • Social and emotional wellbeing
  • Daily living skills
  • And more — tailored to your plan and goals

We’ll walk beside you from day one — ensuring you’re never left to figure it out alone.

  • Track your goals and outcomes
  • Prepare for your plan review
  • Request a plan reassessment if your circumstances change
